Computer Art (A 75) - Exercise Using PSP8 Photo tools

1. Download Paint Shop Pro

2. Open up PSP 98 (Paint Shop Pro 8) either from the icon on the desktop or via the Start programs Jasc Software folder.

3. Take the Product Tour of Photo Features
   Play the movies for:

   • Crop a photo

   • Remove Red eye

   • Clone brush and warp brush

   • Photo effect

   • Picture Frames

4. Don't close the movie window!

5. Select a picture
   This can be your photo or another students photo http://sig2003drew.tripod.com or my photo or your favorite sport or movie star from some site.
   Check suggested photo site

6. Right click in PSP 8 window and Paste as new Image

7. Do the following serious stuff.

   • Crop the photo removing unnecessary stuff

   • Try the various options under the "Enhance Photo" drop down
     (you really want to do this on a better monitor, try it you can alway do an Edit Command History to undo what you did!)

   • If the person has red eye, get rid of it.  If not change their eye color from brown to blue of green or...

   • Use the clone brush (be sure to get it the right size) to wipe out distracting stuff

   • Save the fixed image as a PSP file so you can go back letter and improve it.

   • Save as a JPG

   • Upload the JPG to your web site.

8. Do the following not serious stuff

   1. Use the warp brush (remember you can always undo)

   2. Or ward by playing a Mesh Warp (2nd tool from the top),

   3. Undo and try Increasing the Mesh Horizontal and/or Mesh Vertical (on the top row).  Warp some more

   4. Apply some photo effect.

   5. Save the wacky image as PSP file so you can go back letter and make it wackier.

   6. Do more if you feel really crazy

   7. Save as a JPG

   8. Upload the JPG to your web site.
